Jupiter Medical Center Auxiliary - Making a Difference

If providing caring, compassionate assistance to patients at Jupiter Medical Center appeals to you; join the over 700 men and women who comprise the Jupiter Medical Center Auxiliary.  Auxiliary members provide invaluable support to the patients
and are integral to the smooth operation of the hospital.  Assigned to duties as varied as staffing the visitor information desk and family waiting rooms to patient transportation and working in the Thrift or Gift shops; these dedicated volunteers staff over 50 different services throughout the numerous departments at Jupiter Medical Center, the Ella Milbank Foshay Cancer Center, Health & Rehabilitation Services, Women’s Diagnostics and the Pavilion – Sub-acute rehabilitation and long term care facility.

The many residents who are shuttled round-trip, free of charge from home to the hospital and doctor offices last year through the Auxiliary’s Motor Aid Program, understand the vital role played by these generous volunteers.  Infirmed, elderly and “non-driving” patients describe this service as a “life line” to securing critical medical treatments and retaining an independent, dignified lifestyle.  Perhaps equally as important, it transfers the “shuttle” responsibility from family care providers such as spouse or working children to a reliable outside source.

While it would be easy to be content with dramatically impacting the daily lives of patients, the Auxiliary also manages the revenue producing Thrift Shop and on-site Gift Shop.  The funds generated from these operations are donated to Jupiter Medical Center for special projects such as the ER expansion;  purchasing vans for the Motor Aid Program and generally supporting the medical center’s mission to provide preeminent healthcare.

Auxiliary members receive job specific training, attend a general orientation session and are treated to an annual “thank-you” celebration during the year-end holiday season.  A true esprit d’corp and genuine camaraderie develops amongst the members and many say the reward far exceeds the commitment.  “It is an opportunity to really make a difference.”

 Volunteer Prerequisites:

  • Must attend general orientation session and specific job training

  • Must volunteer a minimum of 100 hours a year
