The Decision of a Lifetime
Jupiter Medical Center is proud to offer one of Florida's longest running weight loss surgery programs, a designated BARIATRIC CENTER OF EXCELLENCE by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Here, you will receive focused, compassionate care and after surgery support.
Obesity is defined as a body mass index of 30 or above. A body mass index of 40 or more is considered morbidly obese. Weight loss surgery is an option you may want to consider, if other methods have failed.
Success after bariatric surgery requires a strong commitment to change your lifestyle. Post-surgical care includes support to help you modify your eating habits. Jupiter Medical Center offers support groups, one-on-one follow up, and the REALIZE mySUCCESSTM online program to help you achieve and maintain the optimum weight loss for your body type.
Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass Surgery
Bypass Surgery is considered the "gold standard" of bariatric surgical procedures. This operation restricts the amount of solid food that can be ingested at one time, and limits the rate at which calories are absorbed in the small intestine. Once the operation has been performed, new eating habits are taught, which must be adhered to in order to avoid discomfort. The laparoscopic technique is minimally invasive performed through five or six small incisions in the abdomen.
Adjustable Gastric Banding Surgery
Placement of a laparoscopic band is a straightforward procedure using a belt-like section of plastic around the stomach to create a smaller stomach pouch. The pouch is easier to fill with small amounts of food and provides a sensation of fullness. The band can be removed or adjusted to match an individual's needs.
Banding produces a slower overall weight loss. A port that allows the surgeon to make adjustments remains permanently just beneath the abdominal skin surface. The procedure is reversible and considered safer for patients over 65.
REALIZE mySUCCESSTM is an online support program exclusive to the REALIZETM Personalized Banding Solution, designed to help you successfully achieve long-term weight loss.

Sleeve Gastrectomy
This procedure generates weight loss by removing 85% of the stomach without bypassing the intestines or causing any gastrointestinal malabsorption. It is purely a restrictive operation and is an alternative to the REALIZETM band procedure. The functions of the stomach are preserved, while reducing the stomach volume.
StomaphyX Surgery
This newer surgery is designed for individuals who have experienced weight re-gain after a gastric bypass surgery. The StomaphyX procedure involves placing an endoscope through the mouth into the stomach pouch. The procedure also encourages weight loss by shrinking the stomach pouch and creating earlier satiety (feeling of fullness). It can be performed on an outpatient basis.
Bariatric surgery is a life changing decision. Our goal is to improve the quality of your health, and to help you maintain your weight loss.
Jupiter Medical Center wants you to be fully educated regarding your surgical options and expected results. We host regular seminars on weight loss surgery, as well as on-going support groups for those who have had surgery.
