Jupiter Medical Center Auxiliary's Motor Aid
Perhaps the most greatly appreciated community service is the Auxiliary's Motor Aid. Area residents who are mobile and live within a defined area are shuttled round-trip, free of charge from a private home to the hospital and its related services. Non-driving patients describe this service as a "lifeline" to securing critical medical treatments and retaining an independent, dignified lifestyle. The Motor Aid service transfers the transportation responsibilities from family care providers to a reliable outside source.
The Jupiter Medical Center Auxiliary is directly responsible for purchasing, maintaining and driving mini-vans dedicated to transport patients to and from appointments, medical procedures and treatment sessions.
Patients merely call in advance to schedule appointments on a first come first served basis. Transportation can be scheduled on a one-time basis or on a repeating schedule for patients receiving multi-session treatments such as physical therapy, chemotherapy or rehabilitation. Family members, physicians and hospital departments can also re quest this service on behalf of a patient.
The Motor Aid service is funded by our Auxiliary-operated, revenue-generating services, the Thrift Shop and Gift Shop and by donations from grateful patients and their families. Our vans are purchased regularly to maintain the four van fleet.
Auxilians who volunteer to work in Motor Aid are Jupiter Medical Center's "Road Heroes," providing a vital community service by insuring medical treatments are received by the non-driving community.
