John D. Couris
President and Chief Executive Officer
John D. Couris serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Jupiter Medical Center, the region’s leading medical center. Under his leadership, Jupiter Medical Center has expanded its services and forged innovative partnerships with some of the leading providers in the nation. In the process, Jupiter Medical Center has received numerous accolades for hospital quality, safety and patient satisfaction, including an “A” rating for hospital safety from the Leapfrog Group and a 4-star rating for quality of care from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
John’s time at Jupiter Medical Center has been marked a period of expansion and innovation coupled with high-level performance. Under his leadership, the hospital has established a clinically-integrated network with over three hundred physicians to provide high-quality low-cost care to team members, the community and regional businesses. At the same time, he has led his team to reduce the organization’s overall expense by $15 million while increasing revenue over the last five years.
During John’s tenure, Jupiter Medical Center has also completed a $50 million expansion plan, installed $30 million in medical technology and established the hospitals’ new pediatric wing as well as an oncology campus. Finally, under his leadership the organization is in the midst of raising $300 million to meet the region’s growing demand for critical health services. Funds raised through the campaign will also support the construction of new high-tech treatment and research facilities, including a Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Jupiter Medical Center.
John is active in numerous community and philanthropic activities and serves on the board of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre, MyClinic (a free clinic for the uninsured), the Loggerhead Marinelife Center and The Honda Classic. In addition, he is Chairman of the Board of the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce and active in many national professional health associations. John is the recipient of multiple awards. For instance, he was named one of the top 10 “Ultimate CEOs” in Palm Beach County as well as “Power Leader in Health Care” for 2014, 2015 and 2016 by the South Florida Business Journal. Additionally, he was awarded the “Healthcare Professional of the Year” in 2014 by the Chamber of the Palm Beaches and was also named the “Healthcare Business Leader of the Year” by the Palm Beach Medical Society. John is also an active member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).
Prior to coming to Jupiter Medical Center, John served as Chief Operating Officer/Administrator for Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, part of the BayCare Health System in Tampa Bay, Florida. He began his career at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, Massachusetts. John is a graduate of Boston University and holds a Master of Science in Management from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He resides in Jupiter, Florida, with family and is a diehard Boston sports fan.
Vice President, Marketing & Strategic Planning
Stacey Brandt plays an integral role in developing and executing the Medical Center’s strategic plans and special projects, and is involved in the Medical Center’s governmental affairs. She also oversees the Medical Center’s marketing, advertising, public relations and outreach strategies and activities to increase recognition of Jupiter Medical Center and its services. Prior to joining the Medical Center in 2001, Ms. Brandt served as Director of Communications for Mason Strategic Communications, a full-service public relations and marketing firm based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is a graduate of the University of Florida, and served as an active member of the Public Relations Society of America and Florida Society for Healthcare Marketing & Public Relations. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Jupiter Volunteer Clinic and the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce.
Vice President, Chief Information Officer
Tom Crawford leads Jupiter Medical Center’s Information Systems & Telecommunication strategies and day-to-day support initiatives. He aligns technology strategies with the financial and clinical goals of the hospital. Tom, who has been with Jupiter Medical Center since 2013, has 24 years of healthcare IT experience. Prior to joining our team, he served as Regional Vice for six years, and as President/Chief Information Officer for Vanguard Health System, a 26 hospital health system located in Nashville, TN. Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science & Operations Management and an Executive Master’s degree in Business Administration, both from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He is also a member of Health Information Management Systems Society, College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and serves on the Tequesta Florida Kiwanis Club. Tom was voted CIO of the Year in 2014 by the South Florida Business Journal.
Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer
Peter Gloggner oversees employment, volunteer services, team member relations and leadership development at Jupiter Medical Center, all of which are built on the foundation of Relationship Based Care (RBC). RBC is JMC’s care delivery model that focuses on attention to relationships, ultimately allowing team members to provide the best experience possible for patients, families and co-workers. In addition, Peter oversees compensation, benefits, team member health services and recruitment. Prior to joining Jupiter Medical Center in 2011, he served as Vice President of Human Resources at Union Hospital in Elkton, Maryland for more than six years. Peter is a graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri and holds a Masters in Business Administration from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. He is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management, achieving the Senior Professional Human Resources certification. Peter is active with the Northern Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, and is on the Board of Directors at Lighthouse ArtCenter
Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer
Dale Hocking is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the financial reporting for Jupiter Medical Center, its charitable Foundation, and all related organizations. He also handles all financial functions including the revenue cycle, decision support, managed care, and supply chain operations. Dale previously served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Central Florida Health and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Mayo Clinic - Florida, Mayo’s St. Luke's Hospital, and prior to that, Methodist Medical Center. Dale was an auditor for the international accounting firms of Ernst and Young, and Arthur Andersen. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Florida, and is a Florida Certified Public Accountant. Dale serves on the Board of the Jupiter Outpatient Surgery Center and Jupiter Medical Center Physicians Group. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Vice President, Service Line Development
Sherri Lewman is currently the Vice President of Service Line Growth and Development for Jupiter Medical Center. She is responsible for the growth and development of key service lines including, but not limited to: Orthopedics, Cardiology, Pediatrics, Imaging, and Oncology. She is responsible for working with the Medical Directors and operators in charge of these service lines by assessing, planning, developing, implementing, and executing strategies and tactics to achieve optimal financial performance, business growth, and helps to identify new program developments to achieve these goals. Additionally, she is a project manager and oversees real estate activities at Jupiter Medical Center. In 2010, Sherri joined the team as the Imaging Director, and also served as the Vice President of Outpatient Operations. Prior to working for the Medical Center, she worked at a large not-for-profit health care organization on the East Coast of Florida. She started her career as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, managing Imaging Centers and spent those former years working in the competitive outpatient care environment focused on operations, project management and strategic execution. Sherri is a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist, (CNMT) and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Vice President, Ambulatory Care
Judy Magalhaes serves as the vice president of outpatient operations at Jupiter Medical Center. Her areas of responsibility include overseeing the outpatient and retail operations offered at the Medical Center and its off-campus Urgent Care Centers. Judy joined Jupiter Medical Center in 2005 as the Director of Patient Access to design a centralized intake model for the center. She was promoted to Director of Outpatient Operations then became the vice president. Prior to joining our team in 2005, Judy served as the director of outpatient services at Waterbury Hospital in Connecticut. She is a member of the Urgent Care Association of America and of the American Academy of Ambulatory Nursing. She is also a member of the North Palm Beach Health Care Committee. Judy is a graduate of Quinnipiac University's School of Nursing and holds a Master of Science from University of Hartford.
Vice President, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Nursing Officer
Steven is responsible for the clinical and operational departments within the hospital, and oversees all care delivery for nursing and ancillary clinical departments at Jupiter Medical Center. Prior to joining Jupiter Medical Center, Steven held numerous executive positions in nursing and patient care services (including Interim CNO) at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He received a Master of Science in Nursing from Nova University in Davie, Florida, and a Bachelor of Arts in Healthcare Services from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida. Steven is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (Treasurer), South Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (President-Elect), American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Emergency Nurses Association and the National Association of Healthcare Quality. He currently serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the South Florida Nursing Consortium.
President, Jupiter Medical Center Foundation
As president of the Foundation, Liv Vesely provides overall leadership and management to the fundraising arm of the not-for-profit Jupiter Medical Center. She is responsible for leading the Foundation’s $300 million fundraising campaign. Ms. Vesely, most recently served as the Deputy Chief Development Officer at Mount Sinai Health System in New York, where she provided fundraising leadership for eight translational research institutes including the Icahn Institute and Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, the Bronfman Institute for Personalized Medicine and Black Stem Cell Institute, among others. Prior to joining Mount Sinai Health System, Ms. Vesely spent seven years as Vice President of Development at Western Connecticut Health Network, a three-hospital system serving Western Connecticut and Eastern New York.
Vice President, Clinical Integration
Teresa (Terri) Wentz is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Jupiter Medical Center clinical integration strategy. This includes working collaboratively with physicians and payors to find new ways to work together to improve the health of the community by delivering high quality, more coordinated care. Terri joined Jupiter Medical Center in 1993 as the Director of Human Resources and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 1997. She has also held the positions of Chief Professional Services Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Ambulatory Care Officer and Vice President of Oncology Services during her tenure. Prior to joining Jupiter Medical Center, Terri was employed at Glades General Hospital in Belle Glade, Florida, where she served as Director of Personnel and Community Development. She is a graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, with a dual degree in Business Administration and Economics, and holds a Master in Healthcare Administration from South University in Savannah, Georgia.
