ICU / PCU Family Waiting Area

At Jupiter Medical Center, we recognize the important role family and friends take in the recovery of our patients. Just like you, our number one priority is their health and safety. We will do our best to care for your loved one with dignity, compassion, professionalism and warmth. Thank you for placing your trust in us.

Communication Is Vital

We encourage you to turn to us if you have any questions or concerns. Our goal is to make sure everyone is well informed about the condition of your loved one. We find this works best when a spokesperson is designated as the primary contact between the ICU/PCU team and the patient’s loved ones. The ICU/PCU team will provide updates to this spokesperson who can then communicate the information to everyone concerned.

Your loved one needs adequate rest on his or her road to recovery. In order for our patients to get the best possible rest, the avoidance of overstimulation is important. Although the ICU/PCU does not have visiting hours, we ask that you observe our quiet hours (listed below). During the quiet hours, the ICU/PCU doors will be closed to all visitors so the patient may rest and distractions are at a minimum.

There are many tasks associated with quality patient care that require privacy and adequate space.

Quiet Hours: 1p.m. - 4p.m.

Please adhere to the following while visiting your loved one:

  • Our ICU/PCU patients are particularly susceptible to the spread of infection, so we ask that you thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water every time you enter the patient’s room. This is the best way to prevent the spread of infection. If you have a cough, fever, runny nose, or rash, the best thing you can do for your loved one is avoid entering the ICU/PCU.
  • Only two visitors (immediate family or significant other) at one time are permitted at the patient’s bedside. Also, please minimize personal belongings. This will avoid overwhelming the patient and will allow for necessary equipment & maneuverability within the room.
  • It is our duty to protect the privacy of all our patients, so we ask that all visitors please remain in their family member’s room during visits, and refrain from roaming the hallway. If you need to use the telephone, please do so from the ICU/PCU Family Waiting Room. We have provided telephones for visitor use if needed. Phones at the nurses’ desk must remain available to nursing and physician staff.
  • Please do not give our patients food or drink without the nurse’s consent. They may be on a special diet, or have tests or procedures scheduled that require your loved one to avoid eating or drinking for a period of time. You may bring covered drinks only for your own consumption. No food please.
  • Flowers and/or live plants are not permitted. Due to the sensitive nature of the patients in the ICU/PCU, allergies might be an issue.
  • There is a call button located on the handheld device attached to the patient’s bed. Use the call button to reach staff if you feel your loved one needs assistance.
