Only ACR-Accredited Radiation Oncology Practice in Palm Beach County

JUPITER, Fla. (April 23, 2013) – The Ella Milbank Foshay Cancer Center at Jupiter Medical Center was awarded a three-year term of re-accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety, and the Foshay Cancer Center is the only ACR-Accredited Radiation Oncology Practice in Palm Beach County.

“By doing their research and reading about options, patients can decide to have their treatment delivered at a center that is fully accredited by the ACR.  It is always surprising to patients to discover that, after doing their homework, Jupiter Medical Center is the only accredited center in all of Palm Beach County,” said Dr. David Herold, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Jupiter Medical Center. “This should help patients feel comfortable in their choice of radiation centers, and also allows them to rest assured that they are receiving the safest and highest quality care possible.”

The ACR seal of accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Radiation Oncology Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to treat cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.
