JUPITER, Fla. - MyClinic, formerly known as Jupiter Community Health Services, Inc., has gained approval by the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners to lease County owned land for the purpose of constructing a free primary medical care and urgent dental clinic that will serve low-income, uninsured individuals.

“It is so exciting to see MyClinic taking shape in Jupiter.  In less than two years, the Town of Jupiter, Palm Beach County, Jupiter Medical Center and El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center mobilized a partnership that created a vision and implemented a plan to serve the uninsured and underinsured in northern Palm Beach County,” said Jupiter Mayor Karen Golonka. “This project is a testament to collaborative community problem-solving and serves as model for other communities to replicate."

The agreement between MyClinic, an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation, and Palm Beach County also provides a Temporary Construction Easement which will allow MyClinic to place a temporary, modular clinic building on the site to begin operations before the permanent construction is complete. MyClinic will be co-located with the existing Palm Beach County Health Department, Jupiter Auxiliary Health Center at 6405 Indiantown Road in Jupiter.

"This clinic should serve as a new model to the community as to what can be accomplished when private and public entities work for a common good with a shared vision," said Dr. Alina Alonso,  Director of the Palm Beach County Health Department.

Quantum Foundation, Palm Healthcare Foundation and Allegany Franciscan Ministries have approved grant funding for the first three years of operation for MyClinic.  Medical and dental care will be provided exclusively by volunteer professionals. Jupiter Medical Center will provide lab and imaging services to clinic patients free of charge as well as administrative support, and medical office equipment has been donated by Clinics Can Help.

"With the support from Jupiter Medical Center and the conglomerate of companies involved, MyClinic will be able to bring accessible health care to those in need within our community."

This MyClinic represents the next phase of a strategy that began over two years ago when a coalition was created to address urgent healthcare needs of a growing, uninsured population in Northern Palm Beach County. The coalition quickly recognized the need for an immediate solution and a long-term, permanent plan. Phase one, financed by a planning grant from the Quantum Foundation, was the January 2012 opening of the temporary, Jupiter Volunteer Clinic which operates out of the Health Department Jupiter Auxiliary Clinic on Saturdays. With over 300 registered patients representing over 550+ visits and waiting times for an appointment in excess of four weeks, Jupiter Volunteer Clinic has proven there is a great need to move into dedicated space with expanded hours of operation.

During phase two, MyClinic will operate from modular building. At the same time, a major fundraising campaign will be implemented to raise approximately $1 million for the construction of the permanent building (Phase Three). The building will be owned by the County and leased back to MyClinic for $1 a year. The County will assume ongoing maintenance and capital renewal and replacement costs enhancing the long-term sustainability of MyClinic.
