The Joe Namath Neurological Research Center at Jupiter Medical Center opens today in Jupiter, FL, to help combat the debilitating effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in the United States. Joe Namath, the legendary New York Jets quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, shared his personal story about his health issues to help raise awareness, funds and widespread support for targeted research into a potential new treatment for TBI, which affects 1.7 million Americans each year.

(August 5, 2014) – Jupiter Medical Center recently celebrated another milestone in providing world-class healthcare to the community with the groundbreaking of the new free-standing Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center. As phase one of Jupiter Medical Center’s brand new oncology campus, the new two-story, 26,000 square foot Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center will be located at 2111 Military Trail, near Jupiter Medical Center’s current Outpatient Imaging Center. The interior design of the Breast Center will emulate a contemporary yet elegant spa-like experience, featuring soft lighting and music, harmonious feng-shui concepts, and stone and steel accents. The exterior south side of the building will be surrounded with tranquil meditation gardens.

JUPITER, FLA. (July 3, 2014) – Jupiter Medical Center (JMC) became the first health care facility in Florida to perform robotic thoracic surgery and robotic gynecologic surgery using the new da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System in July 2014. The lung procedure was performed by Dr. K. Adam Lee, Medical Director of the Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence at JMC on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Dr. Donna Pinelli, Medical Director of the Frank E. and Mary D. Walsh Robotic Surgery Program at JMC, performed the state’s first gynecologic procedure on the da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

Anthony E. Addesa, MD, has joined the world-class oncology team at Jupiter Medical Center’s Ella Milbank Foshay Cancer Center as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology. In this position, Dr. Addesa will utilize his expertise in acute cancer care to further enhance the Foshay Cancer Center. Dr. Addesa is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology and has more than 18 years of experience in the field. He is fluent in Spanish, Italian and French.

Jupiter Medical Center recently appointed S. Raymond Golish, MD, PhD, Board Certified, Orthopedic and Spine Surgery, to Medical Director of its Clinical Trials Program. In this position, he will serve as Chairman of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Jupiter Medical Center and focus on developing key relationships with potential clinical research collaborators. The IRB at Jupiter Medical Center has the authority to approve, require modifications to, or disapprove research. Dr. Golish brings his extensive research background to the role, making him an ideal candidate. He has been on staff at Jupiter Medical Center since December 2012.

In order to offer a better alternative to treat patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee, Matthew Stiebel, M.D. and Gary Ackerman, M.D. of Palm Beach Sports Medicine, in conjunction with Jupiter Medical Center, have opened a clinical trial of KineSpring, a new implantable device intended to treat the symptoms of pain and loss of function of the knee caused by the disease. Typically, the symptoms of OA are treated with painkillers and steroids as well as braces. The purpose of this research study is to test whether the KineSpring device is safe and provides relief of knee pain, improving knee function.

Jupiter Medical Center has partnered with Scripps Florida, a division of The Scripps Research Institute, to conduct a clinical trial from surgical tissue specimens of the breast and the lung to identify targets for development and testing of therapeutics. Results from the trial will help the medical community better understand how therapies work and how to most effectively manage and treat cancers.

Jupiter Medical Center has expanded its patient services to include CareServices, a new home health partnership with CareSouth Health System, Inc. The program, whose goal is to reduce readmission rates, allows patients to recover and rehabilitate in the comfort of their own homes after being discharged from the hospital.
