Men’s Health

Just like a car, your body is a finely tuned machine. If you don’t service and maintain your car, it doesn’t run. The same is true for your body, if you don’t service and maintain your body it will not perform at its best. Regular checkups and preventive maintenance is a must for both your car and your body.

Did you know that on average men die six years earlier than women?  American men live sicker and die younger than women. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Among men, more than one-half of premature deaths are preventable. The top six causes of death in men are:

  • Heart Disease
  • Cancer
  • Injuries
  • Stroke
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Suicide

Men don’t care of themselves as well as women do. If you see a warning light on your car you take it to the repair shop to find out what’s wrong. Do you take the same care with your body? It’s important to know and recognize the warning signs your body gives you. It’s equally important that you do something about those signs. If you don’t have a primary care physician, you should find one and see them at least once a year for a tune up.

Here are some basic facts you should know about your make and model.

  • Know your blood type, if you don’t ask your healthcare provider to check it.
  • Keep track of any injuries and hospital stays, what happened and the reason why. Get copies of your medical records.
  • Know your family history, including: high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer (colon, breast, prostate), alcoholism, mental illness.
