Digital Mammography Comes to Women’s Diagnostics

The Women’s Diagnostics Center at Jupiter Medical Center now offers a new digital mammography system, the first available in Palm Beach County. The state-of-the-art technology offers women a high level of convenience by producing near-instant, easy-to-read computerized breast images.

The new GE Medical Systems Senographe 2000D generates clear, digital images within ten seconds. Digital Mammography is especially useful to women with dense breasts or breast implants. This technology will also be used on patients requiring diagnostic mammograms to reduce the amount of extra views necessary to make a diagnosis.

“This system gives women a new option in breast care,” said Dr. Sandra Mondro, the center’s medical director. “It gives our referring physicians higher resolution images than standard mammography and can give better visibility, especially near the skin line. It also offers our clients mammograms with the least possible disruption to their schedules.”

Since women don’t have to wait for X-ray film to be developed to be sure that the images are usable, the duration of a mammography appointment also is significantly reduced. Adding to patient convenience, the digital imaging reduces the need for callbacks that are sometimes necessary with X-ray film.

Women who want to have a screening digital mammogram can have their physician request one or can make a self-referral. Patients should check with their individual insurance plans for coverage.

Women’s Diagnostics is accredited by the American College of Radiology and provides women with expert screening, diagnosis and consultation, emphasizing emotional support and education.
