Who is a Candidate for Total Joint Replacement?

Total joint replacement surgery is by no means the first line of defense against your pain. Rather it is the last resort after conservative therapies, including rest, activity modification, use of an aid, anti-inflammatory medications and therapy, have failed to bring you relief and mobility.

To determine if you are a candidate for total joint replacement surgery, your orthopaedic surgeon will take a complete medical history, x-ray and MRI (if needed) to understand the extent of your joint degeneration. It is then that you and your orthopaedic surgeon can make an educated decision about whether you are a candidate for the surgery and what it might do to restore your quality of life.
