The Decision of a Lifetime
Jupiter Medical Center Surgical Weight Loss Program

You may think you have tried everything to get your weight down to a normal level.  Diet, exercise, behavioral therapy and even medications have failed to result in long-term weight loss.  Take heart, because there are other options – surgical options – that may be right for you.

Jupiter Medical Center’s Surgical Weight Loss Program, an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, is a leader in surgical weight loss procedures offering GASTRIC BYPASS and LAP BANDÒ SYSTEM, which are minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries.  It is the only program of its kind in Florida utilizing a state-of-the-art, 3D laparoscope.

In addition to health problems, many morbidly obese patients are subject to a variety of social and relationship issues such as: properly fitting clothes are difficult to find; restaurant, theater and airplane seats are small and uncomfortable; health insurance is more expensive to obtain; and obtaining job opportunities may become a challenge.

In LAP-BANDÒ surgery, there is a no cutting, stapling or stomach rerouting.  The procedure is considered to be the least traumatic of all weight loss surgeries.

In laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery, the stomach is made smaller, requiring less food to feel full.  Patients are usually up and about shortly after surgery and discharged home within a few days.

More About Morbid Obesity

Overview
Every year, thousands of Americans die from complications that result from being severely overweight.  More specifically, they develop diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure, degenerating joints, urinary incontinence, vein diseases and leg ulcers that do not heal.  Billions of healthcare dollars are spent every year treating these diseases that may otherwise improve or completely disappear after adequate weight loss.

What is Morbid Obesity?
Many people are overweight.  How many times have you heard people say they could stand to lose ten to twenty pounds?  Just because someone is overweight doesn’t mean he or she is “morbidly obese.”  Morbid obesity is defined as a Body Mass Index of greater than 40 if there are no other health problems, and 35 if there are other health problems. Your Body Mass Index is calculated by dividing your height in meters by your weight in kilograms squared.

Is there a cure for Morbid Obesity?
While there is no cure for morbid obesity, weight loss surgery such as the laparoscopic GASTRIC BYPASS and the LAP-BANDÒ are considered “tools” which may assist you in reaching your goal weight.  These “tools,” combined with the proper nutritional guidance and support provided by our staff, can be your answer to a healthier, happier and thinner new you.
