About Diabetes EducationOngoing diabetes self-medical care and education are important in preventing acute problems and help reduce the risk of long-term complications. The Diabetes Education Department of Jupiter Medical Center can teach those with diabetes more about the disease, how to control it, and better yet, how to live with it. The Diabetes Education Center is proud to be a recognized program by the American Diabetes Association. A Registered Dietician and a Registered Nurse, who are Certified Diabetes Educators, perform the teaching of self-care management techniques to achieve blood glucose control that may help to delay or prevent the onset of diabetes related complications. The diabetes self-management education classes teach those with diabetes, their spouses or care givers information on nutrition, medications, blood glucose monitoring, exercise, and foot, skin and dental care. We emphasize the benefits of family involvement, and social support, as well as the importance of participating in related community activities such as our annual participation at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes and 5K Run to Cure Diabetes. Individual consultations are available for children and adults. |
