G.I. Lab ProceduresColonoscopy:Colonoscopy involves the use of a special scope used to find, evaluate, and treat abnormalities in the colon. Abnormalities may include polyps, cancer, or inflammation, which may cause bleeding, pain, diarrhea, or constipation. Colonoscopy is a primary method doctors use to screen for and prevent colon cancer. Endoscopy:Endoscopy is the direct visualization of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. Diagnosis can be made during this exam by detecting changes in the upper GI tract appearance and also by obtaining biopsy samples. Therapeutic modalities include sclerotherapy, dilatation and heater probe treatment. Endoscopic Retrograde Colangio-Pancreatography (ERCP):ERCP is a diagnostic tool to detect disorders of the pancreas, bile ducts, liver and gallbladder. Blockages or stones can be diagnosed during ERCP and treated via sphincterotomy, stenting or stone extraction. Endocinch:An innovative treatment option used for the treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Endocinch, also known as Endoluminal Gastroplication procedure, is a non-surgical procedure that allows the Gastroenterologist to place small stitches at the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), creating "pleats" (plications). This tightens the opening between the esophagus and the stomach, thus stopping reflux and GERD. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT):The Jupiter Medical Center G.I. Lab is the only lab in Southeast Florida that provides Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). PDT is a new and unique medical treatment for various types of cancer. PDT is currently used to treat advanced esophageal cancer, greatly improving a patient's ability to swallow and eat foods they enjoy. PDT uses a drug that activates a laser light to destroy cancerous tumors. Hours of operation are Monday thru Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. |
