Vascular Interventional Radiology
Your vascular system
is a maze of arteries, veins and tiny capillaries spreading out from the
heart to deliver oxygen and nutrients to every cell in the body. As the
blood circulates, it removes carbon dioxide, toxins and waste
materials.
With aging, blood
vessels become less elastic causing a roughening of the interior
surface, and a narrowing or blockage of the vessel. Resistance to blood
flow increases, elevating blood pressure, which can cause additional
damage to the blood vessels.
Vascular diseases
are very common and involve areas of the body; the arms, legs, head,
neck or abdominal organs. Many problems can result from untreated
vascular disease, which if severe, may require surgery or endovascular
intervention. |
