Gary Ackerman, MD

About Gary

Dr. Ackerman has been in active practice in orthopaedic surgery in Palm Beach County since 1989 after finishing his orthopaedic surgical training at the Massachusetts General Hospital. After serving as chief resident, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital assisting in the care of the Harvard University athletes. During that time Dr. Ackerman had a teaching appointment at the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ackerman has been personally involved in athletics with a long career in basketball culminating as captain of the Harvard Varsity Basketball team in 1977-978. He currently enjoys tennis, basketball and the great outdoors. Dr. Ackerman also serves as an editorial reviewer for papers submitted to the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine. He is involved in the care of amateur and professional athletes in their return to sports utilizing arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery, cartilage restoration surgery, and total reconstruction. He presently serves as a team physician for the United States Tennis Association, Spring Training for the Houston Astros as well as team physician for their minor league team in Florida.
