JUPITER, FLA. (November 10, 2014) – In a landmark healthcare advancement,
Jupiter Medical Center (JMC)’s Dr. Donna Pinelli, medical director
of the Frank E. and Mary D. Walsh Robotic Surgery Program, recently performed
Palm Beach County’s first single-site gynecologic surgery. The scarless
gynecologic procedure, a minimally-invasive surgery, was performed using
the da Vinci® Si™ robot. Jupiter Medical Center recently installed
a second robot, the da Vinci® Xi™ system. JMC is one of the
first facilities in the world to possess this technology.
Single site surgery is offered for selected patients for gynecologic and
general surgery procedures including: hysterectomy, removal of ovaries
and gallbladder removal. In single-site gynecologic surgery, the arms
of the Si robot enter the body through the natural folds of the belly
button, leaving no visible scar. Performing these surgeries robotically
allows for a faster recovery time, less pain, less blood loss and no visible
scar. Dr. Pinelli is the only surgeon in Palm Beach County qualified to
perform this innovative gynecologic procedure.
“Our mission is to provide patients with the best quality healthcare,
utilizing the most innovative technology available to optimize outcomes
for our patients. These cutting-edge procedures and techniques enable
us to tailor the surgery to the patient, minimizing scarring and recovery,”
said Dr. Pinelli, board certified gynecologic oncologist. “It allows
patients to get back to their normal routine as quickly as possible.”
While not every woman will be a candidate for this type of innovative procedure,
she explained, this advance allows JMC to offer the least invasive options
for surgeries common in women. “Becoming the first facility in the
area to offer a single-site, robotic option for gynecologic procedures
allows us to better serve women in our community.”
JMC’s Frank E. and Mary D. Walsh Robotic Surgery Program provides
patients with a comprehensive offering of robotic procedures, including
general (single-site gallbladder), colorectal, urologic and prostate,
thoracic, gynecologic/fertility and gynecologic oncology. This comprehensive
offering sets JMC apart from other hospitals. Over the past four years,
more than 1,000 robotic surgeries have been performed at JMC.
