Jupiter Medical Center to Resume Elective Surgeries with Lifting of Governor's Executive Order

JUPITER, Fla. (May 4, 2020) Jupiter Medical Center, the number one ranked hospital for safety, quality and patient satisfaction in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast region, resumed elective surgeries, procedures and treatments on May 4, 2020. The announcement comes on the heels of Gov. Ron DeSantis reversing the executive order put in place on March 9 that temporarily suspended elective surgeries for hospitals statewide to reserve capacity to care for critically ill COVID-19 patients.

“The health, well-being and safety of our patients, physicians and team members is of paramount importance to us,” said Dr. Amit Rastogi, president and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “The protective measures we have implemented, including new advanced sterilization technologies and safeguards, have enabled us to carefully steward two distinct patient populations undergoing treatment in separate areas of our facilities. As a result of these efforts, Jupiter Medical Center will resume elective surgeries that are vitally important to the health and well-being of many members of our community.”

Most recently, Jupiter Medical Center was awarded an ‘A’ safety grade rating by The Leapfrog Group as well as being named “Top Hospital,” a distinction earned by only six percent of hospitals nationwide. The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit focused on rating and measuring hospital safety, quality and affordability. Jupiter Medical Center is also the only hospital in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties to receive a 4-star safety and quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). These high accolades have become a deciding factor by many consumers to select and reschedule their treatments with Jupiter Medical Center.

With comprehensive infection prevention protocols in place, the Jupiter Medical Center team is working to schedule patients who have been waiting for treatments and procedures that are important to their health and quality of life.

‘Elective’ can encompass a wide range of surgeries used to treat chronic conditions, relieve pain, restore mobility, improve health, and dramatically impact quality of life. These include cardiovascular surgeries, pediatric surgeries, gynecological surgeries, orthopedic surgical procedures, such as hip and knee replacements, spinal surgery, comprehensive stroke, and other procedures to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions.

“While we continue to reserve some hospital capacity to serve COVID-19 patients, closely monitor trends of the virus, and carefully steward our supplies of personal protective equipment and other resources, we are also focused on delivering care to our patients across all service lines,” Rastogi said.

Comprehensive COVID-19 Safety Protocols

Beginning in January, Jupiter Medical Center implemented comprehensive infection prevention protocols to safeguard the health of hospital personnel, patients and their families during the global COVID-19 pandemic. The protocols, which follow state and federal guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, include screening everyone who enters the hospital, a revised visitor’s policy, use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with CDC recommendations, and rigorous cleaning and disinfecting procedures. These rigorous safety measures and state-of-the-art technology include the use of Tru-D SmartUVC ultra-violet disinfection robots, which inactivate viruses and other pathogens on surfaces. This is just one part of our rigorous cleaning and disinfecting protocols that take place multiple times throughout the day at Jupiter Medical Center.
