Message from the Medical Director

There have been exciting developments in the fight against lung cancer and other chest and lung diseases in recent years. New bio-molecular targeted therapies have made treatment safer and more effective in advanced stage lung cancer, with fewer side effects. New techniques and technology are continuously being developed and refined, resulting in better outcomes for thoracic surgery and greater rates of early detection which improves survival.

However, the fact remains lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women nationwide. Jupiter Medical Center recognized this dilemma and established the Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence. The aim of this strategic initiative is to establish a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer and other malignancies of the chest. We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality, most advanced, comprehensive care to patients with diseases of the lung, trachea, esophagus, chest wall, and mediastinum.

We are designated a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology and recognized as a Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance. Patients concerned about or at risk for lung cancer have access to a quick, painless and non-invasive approach to screening. In the case of any findings on CT lung scans, patients are referred to our Lung Nodule Clinic where they receive accurate evaluation and rapid intervention for the best possible outcome.

At Jupiter Medical Center, we provide comprehensive treatment options for all stages of disease, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, as well as some of the most revolutionary techniques, like radiofrequency ablation, targeted therapy, Cyberknife Robotic Radiosurgery and minimally invasive robotic surgery. We recently acquired our second surgical robot making us one of the 1st programs in the world to offer the new da Vinci® Xi™ System--a natural progression as our surgical team was the 1st in the nation to perform a four-arm robotic lobectomy for lung cancer more than a decade ago.

For our patients, this means smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, less post-operative pain, and a faster return to normal activities. We are recognized nationally for the progressive technologies we use in the fight against cancer. Now a teaching site for navigational bronchoscopy and da Vinci® Xi™ robotic surgery, physicians from around the world refer their patients to us and visit our program at the Foshay Cancer Center to train on these technologies and to emulate our procedures and protocols. We conduct weekly tumor boards where patients can count on examination of their case by a team of physicians.

Surgery, hematology/oncology, radiation oncology, pulmonology, pathology, and diagnostic and interventional radiology experts collaborate with our team to craft a personalized treatment plan, employing the least invasive solution to maximize each patient’s quality of life. We are also excited to offer international patients access to our award-winning physicians, innovative techniques and the most advanced technology through our Global Medicine Program. Our unmatched talent and resources have uniquely positioned Jupiter Medical Center as a destination for advanced care, further defining us as a Thoracic Surgery and Lung Center of Excellence.
