Breast MRI
If you are confronted with any kind of breast abnormality, early detection
is essential. Breast MRI goes above and beyond conventional breast imaging,
often providing solutions to tough diagnostic problems and identifying
breast tumors that other exams might fail to detect.
Breast MRI is usually performed when your doctor needs more information
than a mammogram, ultrasound or clinical breast exam can provide.
- Breast MRI has a number of different uses for breast cancer, including:
- Screening women at high risk for breast cancer either because of a strong
family history or a gene abnormality. To learn more about Breast MRI for

- Gathering more information about an area of suspicion found on a mammogram
or ultrasound
- Monitoring for recurrence after treatment
A State-of-the-Art Experience
At the Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center, we offer state-of-the-art MRI
with the widest patient opening available, which offers the most comfortable
exam experience. The Caring Suite system allows patients to customize
their experience. Using an iPad, patients can choose a visual theme, lighting
and music, giving them complete control of the environment during the
exam. As part of the virtual experience, patients can visit the beach,
admire the beauty of fall leaves, or explore a field of sunflowers. Through
custom visuals, lighting and soothing music, the Caring Suite helps to
make the patient experience comfortable and relaxing. Unlike many other
imaging centers in the area, the Margaret W. Niedland Breast Center is
equipped to perform MRI-guided biopsies.
