Being diagnosed with breast cancer is like being caught in an unexpected
storm: It gives rise to fear, anxiety and uncertainty about the future.
There is a wonderful poem by Emily Dickinson titled, ‘Hope’
is the Thing with Feathers, that I find inspiring. I love the symbolism
and meaning of this poem. Hope is a feathered bird that is permanently
perched in the soul of every person. It sings, never stopping in its quest
to inspire. The song of hope sounds sweetest in the storm. The storm has
passed, I’m doing well and living each day to the fullest.
Message to Other Women
Reach out to everyone who loves you, whether it’s family friends,
hospital staff, parishioners – anyone who cares about and for you.
You will be rewarded with LOVE. And there’s always room for HOPE
in the same way.
