IBM Watson
IBM Watson for Oncology - Another First in Cancer Care from Jupiter Medical Center
Jupiter Medical Center is the first regional medical center in the country
to adopt IBM Watson for Oncology. This new technology gives our world-class
cancer team the ability to make more personalized and informed decisions
about treatment options for patients.
Watson is a cognitive computing system with an advanced ability to analyze
the meaning and context of multiple types of data in just seconds. Watson
combines patient information with clinical expertise, external research,
and cancer guidelines for best practices to identify potential treatment plans.
How it Works
Our dedicated nurse navigator starts the process by asking you several
questions, some very general and some very detailed related to your health
status, disease process and past medical history. Watson calls these your
attributes. Once the required information is obtained, our nurse navigator
and physicians will “ask Watson.”
Watson for Oncology can:
- Quickly analyze your medical information to help your oncologist better
understand your unique attributes
- Read the vast and expanding body of medical literature on cancer, including
millions of pages of medical journals and textbooks, keeping pace with
the ever-expanding and changing landscape of oncology treatment
- Cross-reference cancer guidelines and best practices to provide personalized,
evidence-based treatment options to Jupiter Medical Center cancer experts
- Provide a platform to compare one, two or more treatment options side by
side, including relevant evidence-based articles, medication profiles,
potential side effect and treatment-limiting comorbidities
- Provide cutting-edge, individualized patient-centric treatment plans
- Increase time for physician-patient interaction
