Step 3: Prepare your visa requirements
If you are not a dual citizen and plan to have medical treatment in the
United States, you will need to acquire a B-2 Visitor Visa. Like any visa,
you must apply for it well before you plan to travel.
You will also need to provide the following information about your medical
condition and planned treatment:
- A diagnosis from your doctor regarding your medical condition. The doctor
must explain why it is necessary to get treatment in the U.S.
A letter from the U.S doctor that will provide your treatment. This letter
- A statement of willingness to treat your medical condition.
- An estimate of the costs of the treatment, including the doctor’s
fees, cost of hospitalization and other medical expenses.
- An estimate time length of treatment and recovery.
- Proof that you or your sponsor have sufficient funds to pay for your travel
and medical expenses in the United States.
To avoid having problems paying for major services, the consular office
may ask some visa applicants and their sponsors for additional information.
This may include a request to show how follow-up treatment and hospitalization
will be paid.
If a visa is required, we will take into consideration the timeframe necessary
to complete your visa application and will re-confirm your appointment
when your visa is obtained. Your global medicine coordinator will send
an appointment confirmation packet in advance that can be used when you
complete your visa application. Let your global medicine coordinator know
if you require a visa letter for your application.
Step 4: Receive your appointment confirmation
Your global medicine coordinator will confirm your appointment shortly
after we receive your medical records. We’ll send you a packet with
the name of your doctor, the time, date and location of your appointment,
and other important information you need to know before traveling.
If you also wish to make medical appointments for a travel companion, please
let your international medical concierge know so we can schedule them
before finalizing your travel itinerary.
