Orientation & Classes
The first step toward enrollment in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
(MBSR) program is to sign-up for an Orientation Session, which is free
of charge and required of all participants before being accepted.

- Learn about the MBSR Program and explore whether it is right for you
- Meet our program instructors
- Experience, first-hand, mindfulness methods and approaches you will be
learning during the program
- Confirm your place in the class that fits into your schedule and enroll
in the program
8-Week MBSR Program
The Jupiter Medical Center Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program consists
of eight weekly classes and one all-day class. There are 31 hours of direct
instruction. To fully benefit from this program, you must be willing to
make a strong commitment to attend all classes and to practice daily home
assignments for eight weeks. If you are unable to attend your regularly
scheduled class, we encourage you to make up the class by attending a
different class that same week.

The All-Day class is an intensive 7.5 hour session of mindfulness practices
intended to assist participants in firmly and effectively establishing
the use of mindfulness across multiple situations in their lives, while
simultaneously preparing them to utilize mindfulness far beyond the conclusion
of the MBSR program.
This day-long guided retreat will take place between weeks six and seven.
The intensive nature of this session is intended to assist you in firmly
and effectively establishing the use of MBSR skills across multiple situations
in your life, while simultaneously preparing you to utilize these methods
far beyond the conclusion of the program. Having established a daily mindfulness
practice during the previous 6 weeks, you will be better prepared to benefit
from this retreat.

- Make sure to bring a lunch
- Wear loose fitting clothes in layers since the temperature may fluctuate
- Bring mats, cushions, blankets, or any other items to help in your practice
All sessions are held on a Saturday from 8:45 am to 4:30 pm and are open
to all MBSR participants who have previously completed the MBSR program.
The benefits of MBSR training are strengthened through maintaining a daily
mindfulness practice. Students discover at the end of the training, that
class eight launches the beginning, not the end of mindfulness as a way
of life. The practice is well supported through a community of those interested
in continuing, deepening or refreshing their practice.
For this reason Jupiter Medical Center, in partnership with the UMASS Center
for Mindfulness, offers the continuing benefit of ongoing monthly drop-in
sessions*, complimentary for all graduates of the 8-week MBSR class. The
sessions run 90 minutes and consist of a sequence of guided mindfulness
practices led by an MBSR instructor, followed by dialogue and inquiry,
as well as discussion of the informal practice of mindfulness in daily
life. It is an invitation to reconnect and reaffirm one’s commitment
to the living practice of mindfulness. In addition, MBSR graduates are
invited to attend the all-day retreat which is offered quarterly.
*MBSR drop-In sessions are currently being offered on the third Monday
of the month from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. These sessions are held in The Calcagnini
Center for Mindfulness on the campus of Jupiter Medical Center.
