JMC Billing FAQ’s

Q. When should I expect to receive a bill?

A. In most cases, claims are submitted to the insurance carrier and processed within 30 to 60 days. Once the claim has been processed by the insurance carrier, a statement with patient responsibilities will then be sent to you.

Q. What is a deductible? A-co-payment? Co-insurance?

  • A deductible is the initial amount of "covered" health costs that you pay before your insurance plan begins reimbursement. A deductible is usually a set dollar amount such as $250 or $500.
  • A co-payment is a flat dollar amount for hospital service which is the patient and guarantor responsibility to pay.
  • Co-insurance is the portion of your health care expenses not covered by insurance. A co-payment is usually a percentage figure, like 10% or 20%.

Q. What will my bill look like?

A. To view a sample bill, please click below.

  • Jupiter Medical Center Bill
  • Sheridan Bill
  • Jupiter Anesthesia Associates Bill
  • Jupiter Imaging Associates Bill

Q. Why did I receive multiple bills for the same procedure?

A. You may receive separate statements for physician and hospital services, depending on the procedure(s) performed.

Individual bills may be sent from:

  • Jupiter Medical Center
  • Jupiter Imaging Specialists for radiologist reading fees
  • Sheridan/Envision for anesthesiology, pathology, imaging (x-ray, MRI, CT scan) and physician services
  • Jupiter Medical Specialists for physician and/or specialist fees (depending on specialist)

Q. Can I request an itemized hospital bill?

A. Yes, you can request a complete itemization of hospital services by calling 561-263-4440.

Q. How do I know if Jupiter Medical Center contracts with my health plan?

A. Some insurance companies require patients to receive services with “in-network” hospitals and physicians to receive full insurance benefits. Please contact your insurance company to verify that Jupiter Medical Center is in the network of your health insurance company.

Q. Will you bill my insurance company?

A. Yes, Jupiter Medical Center will request the following information, which can be found on your insurance card, to bill your insurance company: Insurance company name and address; policy and group numbers; the policy holder’s name, date of birth and employer.

Q. What if my insurance company does not have a contractual agreement with Jupiter Medical Center?

A. Customers of a private insurance company that does not have a contractual agreement with Jupiter Medical Center can still receive treatment at our hospital. You will be financially responsible for your patient responsibility portion according to your insurance plan and may be asked to make a deposit before receiving non-emergent medical care at Jupiter Medical Center. It is the responsibility of the patient to know what their insurance will and will not cover.

Q. How will I know the amount I owe?

A. For patients with insurance, their insurance company will send an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to you and Jupiter Medical Center detailing the amount to be paid, any non-covered or denied amounts, and the remaining balance that you may be responsible for paying. Please review your EOB carefully and compare it to your Jupiter Medical Center statement. If you have any questions, please call your insurance company or Jupiter Medical Center’s billing department with any questions or concerns.

Q. Why did I receive bills from Sheridan/Envision for a procedure done at Jupiter Medical Center?

A. Jupiter Medical Center contracts with Sheridan/Envision for physician specialties, including radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists and emergency room physicians. Billing for these specialties is generated by Sheridan/Envision.

Q. What is a hospitalist?

A. A hospitalist is a physician who has admitting privileges at Jupiter Medical Center. Many physicians will use a hospitalist to oversee the care of their patients while the patient is in the hospital. If seen by a hospitalist during your stay, you will receive a separate bill for hospitalist services.

Patients seen by a hospitalist during their stay are advised to follow up with their primary care physician after being released from the hospital.
