JUPITER, Fla. (June 18, 2014) – Anthony E. Addesa, MD, has joined the world-class
oncology team at
Jupiter Medical Center’s Ella Milbank Foshay Cancer Center as Medical Director of Radiation
Oncology. In this position, Dr. Addesa will utilize his expertise in acute
cancer care to further enhance the Foshay Cancer Center. Dr. Addesa is
Board Certified in Radiation Oncology and has more than 18 years of experience
in the field. He is fluent in Spanish, Italian and French.
“Under Dr. Addesa’s leadership, Jupiter Medical Center’s
Foshay Cancer Center is changing the way radiation oncology care is delivered
in Palm Beach County,” said Dr. Abraham Schwarzberg, Chief of Oncology
at Jupiter Medical Center. “From new technology, including the coming
addition of IntraOperative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOERT), to comprehensive
treatment planning and a team approach, Dr. Addesa joins an already well-established
comprehensive oncology program, and will take the program to new heights.”
Dr. Addesa’s clinical expertise includes tumors of the brain, spinal
cord, lung, breast, prostate and skin. He also specializes in targeted
therapies to help minimize normal tissue injury during therapy.
Dr. Addesa holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University and his medical
degree from Drexel University’s Hahnemann School of Medicine. He
completed his medical internship at the University of Miami School of
Medicine and Jackson Memorial Hospital Department of Internal Medicine,
before completing his residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine
and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center where he served as Chief Resident.
Following his residency, Dr. Addesa trained at Harvard Medical School,
where he was awarded an ASTRO fellowship to subspecialize in stereotactic
radiosurgery—which is one of only two fellowships awarded nationally
each year. He has held academic appointments at Medical College of Virginia
and Harvard Medical School. He remains principal or co-investigator of
various ongoing clinical trials.
The Foshay Cancer Center provides a comprehensive scope of oncology services
from state-of-the-art diagnostic testing, cancer treatment and rehabilitative
care, to education, prevention and screening. Jupiter Medical Center’s
oncology program has a team of physicians and healthcare professionals
specializing in the care of cancer patients to offer a unique continuum
of care from diagnosis and treatment into survivorship.
The Foshay Cancer Center was recently re-accredited by the American College
of Radiology (ACR), representing the highest level of quality and patient
safety. The Foshay Cancer Center is the only ACR-Accredited Radiation
Oncology facility in Palm Beach County. The Foshay Cancer Center is also
accredited, with commendation, by the Commission on Cancer as a Comprehensive
Community Cancer Program. Only 25 percent of cancer programs in the United
States hold this accreditation.
