JUPITER, FLA. (February 1, 2017) – Jupiter Medical Center announced
that it has broken ground on a new 75,000 square foot world-class research
and cancer treatment center. Construction of the Anderson Family Cancer
Institute is being made possible, in part, by a $25 million-dollar gift
- the largest single gift in the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation’s
history - from Marjorie Matheson and the Anderson Family Charitable Fund
along with a $5 million-dollar contribution from Peter and Missy Crisp.
The Anderson Family Cancer Institute will serve as an innovative center
of excellence for cancer care and will be recognized as a leading research
and treatment center for the region, offering the most advanced diagnostic
services and outpatient treatment. The Institute’s unique patient-centered
approach will focus on coordinating every aspect of the patient’s
care, beginning the moment they walk through the door. The Institute will
be at the forefront of providing world-class diagnosis, treatment and
management of all types of cancer.
“At Jupiter Medical Center, we are transforming the future of health
care in our community, and we are doing this by putting patients at the
center of everything we do,” said Jupiter Medical Center’s
President and Chief Executive Officer John D. Couris. “The Anderson
Family Cancer Institute will allow us to bring unparalleled medical services
and offer world-class, comprehensive cancer care to our neighbors right
here in Palm Beach County,” explained Couris.
The three-floor Institute will be solely dedicated to cancer research and
treatment and will combine cutting-edge technology, world-class clinical
treatment facilities and protocols. It will also provide integrative support
services to assist patients with every aspect of care. The Institute will
expand on the current technology platforms for radiation oncology and
house state-of-the art linear accelerators and the CyberKnife® M6TM
for treatment, along with CT and PET-CT machines and top-of-the-line diagnostic
tools. In addition, the Institute will run on a new IT platform which
will integrate every piece of technology - from the check-in kiosk to
radiation and medical oncology equipment to survivorship and support services
- onto the same system for seamless integration of all touchpoints of
care and treatment.
“The construction of the Anderson Family Cancer Institute will ignite
Jupiter Medical Center’s transformation from a high-quality community
cancer program to a world-class regional cancer institute,” explained
Jupiter Medical Center’s Chief of Oncology Dr. Abraham B. Schwarzberg.
“The Institute will allow us to provide the highest quality comprehensive
cancer care in an environment that harnesses technological innovation
and leading clinical practices in order to focus on the total health and
well-being of the patients we serve.”
The Institute will also help facilitate a collaborative approach to patient
care. It will house physician offices with the goal of bringing the entire
treatment team under one roof. Cancer care is a multidisciplinary disease,
requiring the input of a team of specialists from medical oncologists
to radiation oncologists and surgical oncologists. The best cancer care
treatment is delivered when physicians work together, sharing their unique
expertise and experience. This configuration is also ideal from a patient
perspective because they can get their comprehensive treatment and care
all in one place.
The Institute, designed with the patient in mind, will feature a main atrium,
complete with a striking water feature and two-story fish tank. The first
floor will also include a specialty boutique and personal care items to
help cancer patients look and feel their best; a café; and a retail
pharmacy where patients can conveniently fill their prescriptions or shop
for medical supplies.
“This magnificent facility is being made possible by visionary lead
gifts and the generous support of Jupiter Medical Center’s many
champions and friends,” said Liv Vesely, President of the Jupiter
Medical Center Foundation. To date, the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation
has raised $32 million of the $50 million needed to complete the state-of-the-art
facility. “By supporting Jupiter Medical Center’s Anderson
Family Cancer Institute, individuals will be helping bring a new dimension
of hope and healing to friends and neighbors who are affected by cancer,
and provide a lasting legacy for our community.”
Funds raised to support the Cancer Institute represent contributions to
the Foundation’s $300 million-dollar comprehensive campaign,
Vision. Innovation. Impact. The goal of the campaign is to raise the money needed to expand access
to world-class health care across the region, and to fulfill the vision
outlined in Jupiter Medical Center’s strategic plan.
