Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Public Health Information
Elective Surgery, Procedures and Treatments Have Resumed
Elective surgeries, procedures and treatments resumed May 4, 2020. The
announcement comes on the heels of Gov. Ron DeSantis reversing the executive
order put in place on March 9 that temporarily suspended elective surgeries
for hospitals statewide to reserve capacity to care for critically ill
COVID-19 patients.
“The health, well-being and safety of our patients, physicians and
team members is of paramount importance to us,” said Dr. Amit Rastogi,
president and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “The protective measures
we have implemented, including new advanced sterilization technologies
and safeguards, have enabled us to carefully steward two distinct patient
populations undergoing treatment in separate areas of our facilities.
As a result of these efforts, Jupiter Medical Center will resume elective
surgeries that are vitally important to the health and well-being of many
members of our community.”

How You Can Help
Jupiter Medical Center continues to be moved by the remarkable acts of
generosity from local donors and individuals, community organizations,
companies and first responders who have sought to make donations to our
hospital. Many of the offers have included gifts and donations to the
Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, as well as materials, such as N95 masks,
ventilators and other supplies.
These acts of generosity are a testament to what makes Palm Beach County
and the Treasure Coast so special. We are especially appreciative of the
community’s support for our #HealthCareHeroes — the physicians,
nurses and clinical teams who are demonstrating incredible courage, selflessness,
and spirit on the frontlines of this fight against COVID-19.
Like many of other regional and local hospital systems, we encourage people
who wish to make a difference to contact the American Red Cross for blood
donations and each individual medical center to discuss the best way to
help and offer support.
To make donations of materials, supplies and equipment to Jupiter Medical
Center, please contact Dianne Sipula at 561-263-3438.

Recent Press Releases
Hospital Entrance
In our ongoing effort to protect the health and safety of our patients,
visitors and team members, we are temporarily diverting people from our
new east entrance to the hospital for visitor access. All visitors are
now being directed to enter the hospital through south (outpatient) entrance.
This action is necessary to accommodate the needs of our Security department
as they screen all hospital visitors upon entry.
Information for Visitors
The health and safety of our patients, visitors, employees and community
is our top priority. Therefore, in line with the latest guidelines from
the Florida Department of Health related to COVID-19, we have implemented a
"no visitation policy" with the exception of Labor & Delivery and Pediatric patients, who
will be permitted one visitor.
We know that seeing a friend or loved one can be so important to someone
who is hospitalized. But as medical providers, it is our responsibility
to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, especially to our most vulnerable
patients, and to safeguard the health of our employees, patients and their families.
All visits to the Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center are suspended effective
immediately, until further notice. Visitors will be allowed on the Hospice
unit on a limited basis.
Jupiter Medical Center is following the current
Florida Department of Health Guidelines by asking a series of screening questions for everyone's
safety and protection.
Please call the Health Department at 1-866-779-6121 for further guidance
or with any questions.
CDC Updates Recommendations on Use of Masks
The
CDC recommends that members of the public wear cloth or fabric face coverings in public
settings where social distancing is difficult to maintain. Recent studies
have shown that “a significant portion of individuals with coronavirus
lack symptoms (“asymptomatic”) and that even those who eventually
develop symptoms (“pre-symptomatic”) can transmit the virus
to others before showing symptoms,” per the CDC.
All individuals entering Jupiter Medical Center facilities will be asked
to don a mask. Patients are encouraged to bring their own.
Jupiter Medical Center’s policy dictates that all medical staff and
team members wear a surgical mask when providing care to patients. JMC
is also adhering to CDC guidance for medical professionals on wearing
additional protections, such as N95 respirators and face shields, when
providing patient care.

Origins
First identified in Wuhan, China, on December 31, 2019, coronavirus disease
(COVID-19) has since spread to other countries, including the United States,
according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On March
11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the new coronavirus a
pandemic, suggesting the disease is spreading across the globe. President
Trump declared a national emergency over the coronavirus pandemic Friday, March 13.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) encourages household
members to prepare for the possibility of a COVID-19 outbreak in their
community.
COVID-19 is caused by a new virus. There is much to learn about its transmissibility,
severity, and other features of the disease. These CDC guidelines will
help everyone in our community prepare to this public health threat.

Florida Department of Health Announcements
Hospitals should not be used for non-critical conditions or non-emergencies,
including coronavirus testing. Questions or concerns about the coronavirus
should be directed to the Florida Department of Health COVID-19 hotline
at 866-779-6121. Individuals who are sick are urged to call their primary
care physician. Doctors’ offices can take swabs for testing and
send them to the appropriate lab. The Department of Health will confirm
cases reported by commercial labs.
How You Can Prevent Infections

The CDC recommends members of the community take everyday preventive actions
to prevent the spread of all types of respiratory viruses.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap
and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
