Jennifer K. Wojcieszak
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 40 on December 18, 2018. I had
found a lump on my breast two years earlier and mentioned it to my health
care professional, who told me it was nothing to be concerned about. When
I turned 40, I mentioned it again, and this time I was sent for diagnostic
testing. A baseline mammogram and subsequent biopsy revealed that I had
breast cancer. The surgeon who performed my biopsy referred me to Jupiter
Medical Center and Dr. Nancy Taft.
I was able to go through the multidisciplinary clinic at Jupiter Medical
Center, which was a great experience. Since I live in Okeechobee, it was
very convenient for me to see all the specialists in one day, at one time.
It was nice to meet the physicians that would be taking care of me through
this journey. Donna Skillings, my nurse navigator, has been kind and caring
and a great resource for me.
I had surgery on March 13, 2019. Unfortunately the margins were not clear,
so I needed a second surgery. That took place April 10 and, thank goodness,
came back with clear margins. I do not need chemotherapy, but radiation
therapy was recommended, and I have now completed that course of treatment.
I cannot say enough good things about Jupiter Medical Center and my team,
everyone has been wonderful. This is not something you ever want to have.
But if you do, there is nowhere else I’d rather recommend than Jupiter
Medical Center and the team of people who took care of me.
My family has been a great support system and I have tons of people praying
for me. My mantra is “Take Courage,” and I used it as the
basis of the message on my pink chair, which is “Take Courage: Life
is a beautiful ride.” I rely on a strong faith as well.
Message to Other Women
Be strong, keep your head up, have a positive attitude, and don’t
allow any negativity in.
