Jupiter Medical Center First in Florida to Acquire da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot

JUPITER, Fla. – April 2024 – Jupiter Medical Center, the region’s highest-rated medical system, will be the first in Florida to acquire the da Vinci® 5 surgical robot. The new da Vinci 5 is the most intelligent of the da Vinci systems, offering unparalleled precision and control with 10,000 times more computing power and cutting-edge analytics. Additionally, the system was designed on a future-ready platform to deliver the most advanced capabilities today, with the option for AI integration in the future.

“The acquisition of the da Vinci 5 marks a pivotal moment in our ongoing commitment to remain at the forefront of technology and invest in health care innovation for the future,” said Amit Rastogi, MD, MHCM, President and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “We are proud to have one of the leading robotic surgery programs in the nation. With future AI integration in mind, the da Vinci 5 will revolutionize our surgeon’s precision and efficacy and, above all, benefits our patients with better recovery time and improved surgical outcomes.”

Jupiter Medical Center launched the Frank E. & Mary D. Walsh Robotic Surgery Program in 2010 and presently has 37 surgeons with robotic privileges spanning multiple specialties. The da Vinci 5 will be the sixth surgical robot at Jupiter Medical Center. Over the years, the hospital has been a leader in robotic surgery, with several significant milestones to its credit.

In July 2014, Jupiter Medical Center became one of only ten facilities worldwide to implement the new da Vinci Xi surgical system. With the acquisition of the Xi System, Donna Pinelli, MD, FACOG, Medical Director of Gynecologic Oncology and the Walsh Robotic Surgery Program, was able to perform the first gynecologic surgery in Florida, and K. Adam Lee, MD, Medical Director of Thoracic Surgery & Lung Center of Excellence, performed the first thoracic surgery in the state. By the end of that same year, over 1,000 surgical procedures had been performed.

By April 2024, the hospital achieved and celebrated the completion of 10,000 robotic procedures, a significant milestone. This summer, it will again make notable history when it begins using the da Vinci 5.

The da Vinci 5 is the latest technology available from Intuitive, the maker of the da Vinci Surgical Systems. Other exciting features for Jupiter Medical Center’s elite surgeons include new instruments for force feedback technology so surgeons can better sense the push and pull on patient tissue and optimized visuals with truer colors, higher resolution and improved image fusion for the most realistic 3D view. According to Intuitive, Jupiter Medical Center’s program is one of the most extensive robotic programs in the state.

The benefits of minimally invasive procedures include smaller incisions, more precision, decreased recovery time and greater patient outcomes.
