Gynecologic Cancer Treatments

Because gynecologic cancers can have a wide range of physical and emotional effects, we offer services to strengthen the mind, body and spirit. Jupiter Medical Center’s complimentary patient navigator service can help you and your family by providing the information, knowledge, support and guidance necessary to manage the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

The patient navigator, a vital member of our multispecialty team, collaborates with your doctors and your treatment team, which eliminates unnecessary phone calls and long waiting periods and allows you to focus on what’s most important—beating cancer. Our patients are also given access to compassionate counselors, integrative medicine services, dietitians, cancer rehabilitation specialists, and support groups to address the physical and emotional side of fighting cancer.

Multidisciplinary Clinic

At Jupiter Medical Center, we are committed to providing cancer care of the highest quality. Our clinic is staffed with multidisciplinary medical experts who provide patients with a comprehensive evaluation and consensus on the plan of care. Our patients meet with all of these specialists in one appointment in order to create an improved coordinated care effort.

Our multidisciplinary clinic is designed to evaluate patients in a comprehensive, single-day setting to minimize the time between diagnosis and treatment. Patients are seen by a team of experts who are subspecialists in gynecologic cancers.

  • Resources provided by our clinic include:
  • A comprehensive initial evaluation
  • A review of outside specimens and scans
  • A consensus regarding the management of each patient’s specific diagnosis
  • Access to clinical trials
  • Patient and family education about what to expect through treatment
  • One-on-one support from the patient navigator
  • Genetic testing and counseling, if indicated

Robotic Surgery

Gynecologic surgery is performed to treat a variety of conditions affecting the female reproductive organs. When medication and non-invasive procedures are unable to relieve symptoms, surgery remains the accepted and most effective treatment for many gynecologic conditions.

Conditions treated include:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Fibroids
  • Adenomyosis
  • Heavy Bleeding
  • Endometriosis
  • Pelvic Prolapse
  • Gynecologic Cancers (cervical, uterine and ovarian)

Previously, open gynecologic surgery mandated a significantly-sized incision, resulting in severe pain and trauma, as well as a lengthened recovery process. It comes as no surprise women facing this kind of surgery are incredibly anxious about the daunting prospect of traditional surgery. Fortunately, less invasive options are now available. In fact, the da Vinci Robotic Surgery System has been proven to be incredibly beneficial for all involved.

The da Vinci Surgery System is an advanced tool which allows surgeons to precisely complete delicate gynecologic procedures. During the surgery, your doctor controls the system, which translates into smaller, more precise movements using tiny instruments. The most recent advancement in robotic-assisted surgery is the single site approach.

This minimally-invasive procedure allows surgeons to use one incision through the belly button. Patients are left with virtually no scars, as well as a shorter recovery time, less pain, no visible scar, less blood loss, less risk of wound infection, and more benefits.

Procedures

Hysterectomy - Women with benign gynecologic conditions, or early-stage gynecologic cancer, are treated with hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus.

Myomectomy - Women with uterine fibroids who want to preserve the uterus can be treated with myomectomy, the surgical removal of fibroid tumors.

Sacrocolpopexy - Sacrocolpopexy surgically corrects vaginal vault prolapse, in which mesh is used to hold the vagina in the correct anatomical position. This procedure may also take place after a hysterectomy, in order to treat uterine prolapse. This helps with long-term support of the vagina.
