JUPITER, Fla. (March 17, 2020)
– Jupiter Medical Center, the No. 1-ranked hospital in Palm Beach County
and the Treasure Coast, today announced the opening of the Anderson Family
Cancer Institute, a 55,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art comprehensive
cancer treatment center. The opening of the new Anderson Family Cancer
Institute marks a new era of cancer care in Palm Beach County and South
Florida by greatly expanding access to world-class cancer care, closer to home.
Situated on the campus of Jupiter Medical Center, the Anderson Family Cancer
Institute brings together multidisciplinary cancer experts, leading-edge
technology and amenities uniquely designed for ensuring the highest levels
of patient comfort and healing, all in one integrated location.
“The Anderson Family Cancer Institute is the culmination of an incredible
vision – brought to life by the generosity of the Anderson and Crisp
families, and many others – to give residents of Palm Beach County
and the Treasure Coast access to comprehensive, world-class cancer treatment
right here at home,” said Dr. Amit Rastogi, president and CEO of
Jupiter Medical Center. “What once was only available to cancer
patients by leaving the South Florida region or the state of Florida for
advanced care is now available in the heart of Palm Beach County with
the opening of this remarkable new treatment center.”
Equipped with powerful technology, designed for patient comfort
The Anderson Family Cancer Institute will house Jupiter Medical Center’s
multidisciplinary cancer care clinics, which enable patients to see their
oncologists and support team all in the same day, and receive a comprehensive
treatment plan so they know what to expect from diagnosis through survivorship.
The institute enables patients and their families to have one place where
they can go for lab work, radiation, physician appointments, chemotherapy
and infusions, and pharmacy services.
The institute will also hold Jupiter Medical Center’s cutting-edge
radiation technology, including a TrueBeam® radiotherapy system, which
precisely targets and destroys cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue.
The TrueBeam system is in addition to existing technologies that include
the CyberKnife® M6™, which treat tumors nonsurgically; and electron
beam intraoperative therapy (e-IORT), which reduces the number of radiation
treatments needed for numerous types of cancer.
With 31 private infusion rooms, patients can receive chemotherapy and other
types of infusions in a calming environment outfitted with specialized
chairs to maximize comfort.
To assist with the physical and emotional issues that can arise during
and after cancer treatment, the institute is also home to an array of
support services. These include an oncology dietitian, a genetic counselor,
nurse navigators, a boutique for patients in need of wigs and prostheses,
and an oncology esthetician specializing in skin care treatments tailored
to the unique needs of cancer patients. Free valet parking is also available.
“Integrative oncology takes into consideration the whole person –
mind, body and spirit,” said Angelia Palahunik, Jupiter Medical
Center’s executive director of oncology. “The Anderson Family
Cancer Institute brings together a comprehensive suite of oncology services,
multidisciplinary experts, a beautiful, supportive environment and the
leading technologies necessary to give patients the best, most comprehensive
cancer care in the entire region.”
Building on 30 years of cancer treatment experience
For more than 30 years, Jupiter Medical Center has provided a full continuum
of advanced cancer care, including early detection, diagnostics, treatment,
support services and a survivorship program.
Jupiter Medical Center’s cancer care teams include board-certified
radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and board-certified surgeons,
who together with nurses, social workers and other specialists, offer
personalized therapies, lifesaving treatments and compassionate support
services to assist patients throughout the cancer journey. Jupiter Medical
Center offers specialty programs in breast, thoracic, gastrointestinal
and gynecologic oncology.
Jupiter Medical Center is also the only hospital in the region to have
an affiliation with
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the
University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, a part of the
University of Miami Health System. Sylvester is South Florida’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated
cancer center. The affiliation provides seamless access for patients with
certain rare cancers to subspecialists and specialized treatments such
as bone marrow transplants and CAR T-cell immunotherapy, available only
at Sylvester.
“The opening of the new Anderson Family Cancer Institute is one of
the most consequential developments in the history of Jupiter Medical
Cancer,” Dr. Rastogi said. “Combined with our affiliation
with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and our decades of experience
in providing the highest quality cancer care, Jupiter Medical Center is
ensuring our patients receive the best care available anywhere in the
world, right here in our community.”
Other features of the new institute include:
- A healing garden where patients can spend time with family and friends,
- A 45-seat auditorium for patient and physician educational events,
- An outpatient pharmacy and lab for more convenient access and faster results,
- A café with outdoor terrace seating, and
- A 2,000-gallon saltwater aquarium filled with coral and tropical fish to
aid relaxation.
