Jupiter Medical Center has been granted an AABB accreditation for its transfusion activities. Transfusions are provided to replace blood lost due to surgery or traumatic injury. They also help patients with illnesses that prevent the production of blood or its components, such as red cells, plasma or platelets, which form clots to stop bleeding. The accreditation process follows an intensive on-site assessment and establishes that the level of technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by AABB. Formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks, AABB is an international, not-for-profit association dedicated to the advancement of science and the practice of transfusion medicine and related biological therapies. AABB’s Accreditation Program contributes to the quality and safety of collecting, processing, testing, distributing and administering blood and cellular therapy products.
