Jupiter Medical Center First in Region to Earn Five Stars

JUPITER, FLA. (March 1, 2019) — Jupiter Medical Center today received a five-star rating for quality of care—the highest ranking awarded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Jupiter Medical Center is the first and only hospital in Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties to receive the ranking, which places the hospital in the top 10 percent nationally.

CMS is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that administers the Medicare program and works with state governments to administer Medicaid and other services. The agency uses summary star ratings—one to five stars, with five being the best—on its Hospital Compare website to help patients and families evaluate health care options in a given geographic region. The Hospital Compare overall hospital rating summarizes more than 50 quality measures into a single star rating for each hospital. Jupiter Medical Center has consistently ranked the highest among hospitals in Palm Beach County and throughout the Treasure Coast.

“This is an extraordinary achievement for Jupiter Medical Center,” said Don McKenna, president and chief executive officer. “Few hospitals across the nation have been able to earn a five-star rating and we stand as first in our region. This would not be possible without the unified and collective commitment of our board of trustees, medical staff, all 1,700 team members and more than 600 volunteers.”

The five-star rating comes on the heels of Jupiter Medical Center earning an “A” for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national organization focused on health care quality and safety. In addition, Leapfrog reviewed all of the “A” providers to single out the country’s highest quality hospitals. Jupiter Medical Center is one of only 118 facilities across the nation to be named a Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. Just six percent of eligible hospitals in the U.S. hold this elite designation.

“The five-star ranking and our recognition from The Leapfrog Group reflect our commitment to providing quality care and to enhancing our patients’ overall experience,” said Martin Dytrych, chairman of the Jupiter Medical Center Board of Trustees. “It is an honor to care for individuals and families from across our region. Last year, our community trusted us with more than 11,000 hospital admissions and 180,000 outpatient visits – every one deserving of five-star care.”
