Jupiter Medical Center First in Palm Beach County to Offer Innovative VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Replacement

JUPITER, Fla. (March 31, 2023) – The leader in quality, safety and patient experience, Jupiter Medical Center is pleased to announce it is the first in Palm Beach County to introduce the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, a technology that helps surgeons perform a knee replacement individually tailored to each patient’s anatomy. The innovative technology provides surgeons with enhanced digital precision in knee replacement procedures, and Jupiter Medical Center is pleased to offer this innovative procedure to patients.

Gavin Hart, MD, a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, performs total knee replacement procedures using the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution at the Anderson Family Orthopedic & Spine Center of Excellence at Jupiter Medical Center.

“Total knee replacement can be a daunting procedure for any patient,” said Dr. Hart. “I am pleased to offer this innovative technology to my patients at Jupiter Medical Center. Using the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, we are able to perform total knee replacements that more closely match each patient’s normal anatomy and function than ever before, with the goal of returning patients to their usual activities as quickly as possible. This new technology is so exciting because it offers all patients the chance to have the best outcomes possible following their total knee replacement.”

Dr. Hart completed his hip and knee replacement fellowship with international leaders in the field, focusing on the latest technologies as well as complex revision joint replacement surgery. He currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty and has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed academic journals.

Jupiter Medical Center and Dr. Hart were selected to utilize this innovative technology in advance of the health system’s highly anticipated Johnny and Terry Gray Surgical Institute, opening in fall 2023. The development of the Surgical Institute is in direct response to the significant growth of the community and corresponding patient volumes. More than 15,000 traditional and minimally invasive surgical procedures are performed at Jupiter Medical Center annually.

The Institute’s “smart” operating rooms will accommodate complex surgeries, while the hybrid suites will offer surgeons the ability to transition from a minimally invasive surgery to an open procedure when necessary, providing patients and their families with the best options for their health. The “operating rooms of the future” will use state-of-the-art equipment that is digitally integrated, allowing the surgical team to transmit a patient’s images from the operating room to additional specialists for real-time consultation, resulting in a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach to care.

In addition to advanced operating rooms, the Institute will provide a spacious reception area for loved ones along with private consultation rooms to meet with the surgeon before or after a procedure. Recognizing the importance of real-time communication, leading-edge technology will be integrated into the Institute’s design, providing seamless updates from the care team to a patient’s family whether they are at the medical center or in a different time zone.

“Providing our community with access to leading-edge technology, such as the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, is the driving force of our mission,” says Rogerio C. Lilenbaum, MD, FACP, FASCO, Senior Vice President and Chief Physician Executive of Jupiter Medical Center. “Our Anderson Family Orthopedic & Spine Center of Excellence is a destination for patients seeking the most innovative procedures, and for physicians who are committed to providing their patients with the latest advancements available.”

Jupiter Medical Center’s Anderson Family Orthopedic & Spine Center of Excellence is the only program in the state of Florida to have achieved all five of these highly sought-after distinctions: Blue Distinction Center+ for Knee & Hip Replacement; Blue Distinction Center+ for Spine Surgery; and The Joint Commission certifications for Hip and Knee Replacement, Shoulder Replacement and Spine Surgery.
