Jupiter Medical Center Completes Inaugural Operation with da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot

JUPITER, Fla. – May 24, 2024 – Jupiter Medical Center, the region’s highest-rated medical system, proudly announces a groundbreaking milestone in minimally invasive surgery. The Johnny and Terry Gray Surgical Institute at Jupiter Medical Center has successfully performed the first robotic surgery utilizing the cutting-edge da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgical System. Jupiter Medical Center is one of the first 10 locations in the country to acquire the da Vinci 5.

The new da Vinci 5 is Jupiter Medical Center’s sixth surgical robot and epitomizes the pinnacle of robotic surgical systems. It offers enhanced precision, flexibility, and control far beyond traditional surgical methods with 10,000 times more computing power and innovative analytics. The da Vinci 5 is designed on a future-ready platform, promising the most advanced capabilities today and options for AI integration in the future.

Dr. K. Adam Lee, Medical Director of the Thoracic Surgery & Lung Center of Excellence, performed the first procedure and expressed his enthusiasm for the future of robotic surgery at Jupiter Medical Center. “This is a new generation of robotic surgery. I performed the first four-arm robotic lobectomy over 20 years ago and have witnessed the evolution of robotic surgery technology. Integrating the da Vinci 5 into our operating rooms is a transformation for both our surgical team and our patients. It enables us to perform complex procedures with a level of precision that was previously computing software power unattainable. I am honored to be a part of such a historic milestone,” said Dr. Lee.

The da Vinci 5 represents the latest in leading-edge technology available from Intuitive, the creator of the da Vinci Surgical Systems. Jupiter Medical Center’s top-tier surgeons will benefit from numerous innovative enhancements including new instruments featuring force feedback technology, which enhances their ability to sense tension and pressure. Optimized visuals are designed to provide truer colors, higher resolution, and improved image fusion, delivering the most realistic 3D view available. Jupiter Medical Center’s program stands out as one of the most comprehensive robotic programs in the country with more than 35 robotically trained surgeons spanning nine specialties.

The benefits of minimally invasive procedures include smaller incisions, more precision, decreased recovery time and greater patient outcomes.
