Urgent vs. Emergency Care

Where to go for Medical Emergencies

No one should ever take a chance with a medical emergency. When you have a medical crisis, it is important to get the treatment you need as quickly as possible. Not every condition that requires immediate medical attention is a life-threatening emergency. There are several services that can be just as efficiently provided at an urgent care center instead of the emergency room.

Visiting one of our Urgent Care Centers for your non-urgent or minor medical care needs can be a great cost-saving and time-saving alternative to you or your family members. Going to an Emergency Department for less serious problems—such as an ear infection, sore throat or a sprain—can be costly and time consuming.

Every second counts when an emergency strikes, so you should seek the treatment you believe you need as quickly as possible. Below you will find examples of issues that are better treated at an urgent care center, as well as life-threatening conditions that are best treated in the emergency department. Keep the following in mind when deciding where to go during a medical crisis.

Go to Jupiter Medical Center Urgent Care For

  • Bladder infections
  • Bug bites or small animal bites
  • Coughs, congestion and sinus problems
  • Ear infections
  • Mild fevers
  • Minor burns
  • Pink eye or other minor eye problems
  • Rashes
  • Sprains or minor injuries
  • Throat pain

When to Visit the Emergency Department

Ask to be taken, or go, to Jupiter Medical Center's Emergency Department if you experience any of the following conditions or symptoms that qualify as medical emergencies (including but not limited to):

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Sudden or severe pain
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Sudden dizziness, weakness or changes in vision
  • Difficulty speaking, altered mental status of confusion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Serious burns
  • Vaginal bleeding with pregnancy

Whether you choose to be treated at one of our Urgent Care Centers or in the Emergency Department, rest assured that you will receive the highest quality of medical care available in our community.
